Step 6: Quick Synopsis

As we've all acknowledged, there's a sense of urgency within the Succession Management process to ensure that we have a "One-Ready-Now" for each Mission-Critical Key Position. This phase of the process requires a slightly more in-depth analysis than will be required for the ongoing. In essence, once we have the ready-now criticality accomplished, we have the luxury of time to implement the strategic breadth/depth growth plan outlined in the succession Breadth/Depth Learning.

As a reminder, Steps 3 and 4 of the Succession Management system are ‘filters' that look at performance and potential for inclusion in the succession process. Step 5 (Career Discussion) — in its own way — is also a ‘filter' because it's during the career discussion when we uncover an individual's interest and motivation in some form of career growth. Once you've completed Step 5, the individuals who remain on your list are your primary focus for succession management. Some of these individuals will be identified for One-Ready-Now Position Pathing; the remaining individuals will participate in the Breadth/Depth Learning.
